Historic Overview
In April 1938, “Tokyo Gear Manufacturers Association” was established as the parent body of the current Gear Manufacturers Association. Twenty years later, in May 1958, we changed our organization to an incorporated association. It was an additional five decades, until we shifted to a general incorporated association in April 2013, and have remained that way with our current system that responds and evolves to the modern era.
The machine industry was modernized under the ‘Act on Temporary Measures for the Promotion of the Machinery Industry’. In 1959, the ‘Small and Medium Enterprise Modernization Promotion Act’ was enacted, and the gear manufacturing industry became a designated industry.
In response to this, we produced the first structural plan.
In 1969, the same law was amended, and the structural improvement plan system was founded. The gear manufacturing industry was defined as a specialized industry in 1971.
After that, we worked on the structural improvement plan based on the ‘Small and Medium Enterprise Modernization Promotion Law’ until the final in 2000.
The Japan Gear Manufacturers Association has developed various measures in line with these policies and is currently focused on strengthening the management capabilities of member companies in a wide range of ways, including (1) standardization projects, (2) international exchange projects, and (3) education projects.
